labor

Beginning with the theme of 'labor' in Design Exploration and Experimentation,  I immediately thought of my connection of body and labor. I have always been reliant on my body for work, production of ideas, and expression. This practice of making physical embodiments of formal ideas was paused when I broke my collarbone and was forced to examine mine and my bodies future.

I had also just finished a course called Innovative Fashion Design, where I worked on a concept of clothing that was a bit anti-fashion, more like uniforms, in celebration of do-ers, workers, laborers, makers, growers, care-takers, and artists. Everyone has some kind of labor, I was interested in highlighting active necessity, especially within women's clothing. I feel akin to people that especially love physically doing. Below is one of my inspiration images of a bricklayer and a manifesto from Studio Toogood, who also makes utilitarian-inspired unisex clothing.
